Who Am i?
Hello, my name is Toby, and this is the story of my creative journey and what I have planned for the future.
My story begins in Newcastle upon Tyne in 2004, growing up with my brother and mum. We are extremely close, and that relationship with my family has shaped who I am today. From an early age, I was always creating—drawing, painting, and developing in-depth characters with full backstories and motivations. Fine art was my first outlet, and it gave me a way to understand and express the world around me.
Throughout school, my creative interests began to expand. I took an A Level in Graphic Design, which gave me a strong foundation in the art of visual communication and design. It taught me how to combine my creative skills with real-life scenarios—using layout, colour, and typography to help tell a story.
This interest led me to my next creative passion: photography. I was, and still am, fascinated by capturing real moments and exploring narrative through light and composition. Photography showed me just how much I loved working with cameras. As I developed my skills, it naturally led me to my next interest: Film and TV Production.
This led me to study film at Northumbria University. My degree is a reflection of my skills as a filmmaker and storyteller. My time at university has been a process of constant learning, collaboration, and refining my voice as a visual storyteller.
Now, as I prepare to graduate, I'm excited to begin a new chapter. First, I will be working as a photographer and videographer for the summer school Vacational Studies, where I’ll be operating both a drone and my own camera. After that, I’ll be travelling to the other side of the world—to Niseko, Japan—where I’ve been offered a role as a sponsored photographer and videographer. It's a chance to push myself out of my comfort zone and earn a living doing what I love.
And this is just the beginning.
